Thierry GEOFFROY/COLONEL

Download biography (pdf)

Born in 1961

A Franco-Danish artist who finds the Fundamentals of his practice in what he calls
« existence strategies », Thierry Geoffroy/ Colonel has always questioned different possible types of exhibitions. He considers himself a ‘format' artist who focuses on the proposition of new spaces of expression for artists.

His reflections on psychology in social interactions (conflicts & collaborations) determine a large part of his work. From a theoretical and practical typology of the ways of exposition (mobile exhibitions, flying exhibitions...), to a systematic experimentation of collaborations between artists, he reunites his different explorations in a body named "Manifesto".

Like an investigative journalist, he questions among other things the phenomena of immigration, multiculturalism and reactivity to news events, in a plethora of projects including Biennalist, created for the Venice Biennial in 2007 and Emergency Room.

He works in multiple media including portable phones, the TV (he has done a lot of work or Danish television) and the Internet (My Space and FaceBook, for example).

Thierry Geoffroy believes that each artistic institution in the whole world should open an Emergency Room. Proposing these experimental platforms to artists is an emergency in and of itself. So that they can express themselves here and now. Thierry Geoffroy has written five books and two manifestos.
